My dear brother, you claim that we are not required to follow the Sunnah because it is not mentioned in the Quran, implying that Allah has not demanded it of us. However, I read some verses where Allah demands it, but He did not mention it by name; rather, He called it "Al-Hikmah" (Wisdom), as my Sheikh informed me.
Allah says: (Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and 👈wisdom👉) [2:129].
In another verse: (Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and 👈wisdom👉) [2:151].
There are many verses on this subject. Therefore, the Sunnah is the Wisdom. If it is not the Wisdom, then what is it?
At times, you use the verse: (Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed) to argue for the Sunnah. When that argument was refuted, you cited: (And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from). When that was refuted, you used: (Obey Allah and obey the Messenger). And now, you bring a new argument: "Wisdom"!
I too once thought the Sunnah was the Wisdom, as the clerics told us. But when I read the Quran with my own reflection and understanding, not through the understanding of a Sheikh, I found the true meaning of Wisdom—a meaning completely different from the illusory one the clerics provided.
Wisdom, my dear brother, is morality and the precise (Muhkamat) verses. Wisdom is the noble character that every human should possess.
Read Surah Al-Isra from verse 23 to verse 39.
In these verses, Allah speaks and advises His Messenger about morality and precise laws.
He begins with: (And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment). This is a precise verse and an obligation from Allah upon His servants.
After that, Allah speaks about ethics: how to be kind to parents, kindness to people, spending for the sake of Allah on the poor and needy. Allah advises us against extravagance and stinginess. He speaks about provision being from Him. He warns us not to approach indecency, nor the property of orphans except in a way that benefits them. He also commands us not to cheat in buying and selling and to give everyone their due right.
At the end of these precise verses and moral commands, Allah says: (That is from what your Lord has revealed to you of 👈Wisdom👉. And, [O Muhammad], do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity) [17:39].
Therefore, Wisdom is morality in dealing with people—and the Messenger of Allah possessed great character, as Allah said: (And indeed, you are of a great moral character). It also refers to the precise verses we just read.
Furthermore, Allah grants Wisdom to whomever He wills.
He says: (He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good) [2:269]. How can it be the Sunnah when Allah tells us He gives it to whomever He wills?
If Wisdom were the Sunnah, where is the "Sunnah of Luqman"?
Allah says: (And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom) [31:12]. Luqman was not mentioned as a prophet or messenger, so how could he have a "Sunnah" in the legislative sense?
If Wisdom were the Sunnah, where is the "Sunnah of David"? Where is the "Sunnah of the Family of Abraham"? Why did no one record them?
Allah says: (...and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the kingship and wisdom) [2:251].
And: (Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them of His bounty? But we had already given the family of Abraham the Book and wisdom) [4:54].
As I told you, Allah gives Wisdom to whomever He wills. Wisdom, as we read in the Book of Allah, refers to ethics and the precise laws, not the Sunnah.
But there are authentic Hadiths that agree with the Quran, and I only take what agrees with the Quran. Where is the problem in that?
When a Hadith agrees with a verse in the Quran, it means we have a verse and a Hadith that are identical. Here we have the words of Allah and the words of humans. Why should we take the words of humans and leave the words of Allah? When we follow the verse that agrees with the Hadith, we have technically "taken" the Hadith, but we derive our evidence from the words of Allah, which cannot be approached by falsehood from any direction.
